Essay on – A Scene of An Earthquake

Mysterious are the ways of Nature. Despite all the discoveries and inventions that have been made, one can’t say for sure that man has conquered nature. She surprises us with her strange and sudden actions time and again. Nature has remained supreme and invisible.

Nature has provided us all that we need to survive. She nurses us like a mother but we have often invited her rage by foolish acts. We cut trees which in turn brings floods, land corrosion, famines, etc.

Unchecked exploitation of natural resources brings nature’s (anger) in the form of heavy rains, floods, droughts, landslides, earthquakes, and volcanoes.

As earthquakes shank the earth, buildings, dams, towers, trees, and bridges collapse; within seconds everything is razed to the ground. It makes no distinction between the rich and the poor, the weak and the powerful, the young and the old, man and woman.

During the earthquake, deep cracks appear in the earth, houses and window panes and doors swing and rattle. People get panicked. The noise is terrible and heart-rending.

People rush out of their pucca houses. They forget to carry their valuables but carry their children with them. Many people die under collapsed buildings. People witness their dear one’s die before their eyes houses collapse and property destroyed within a matter of seconds. Their cattle die. They can’t save them. There is the naked dance of untold deaths and destruction.

In a few seconds, hundreds of people get killed, several lay buried, many more get badly injured and property worth billions is destroyed which had taken decades to build. Children become orphans, men lose their wives and many women become helpless windows. Rich become poor, hundreds of people are rendered homeless and penniless. Communication links such as roads electricity, telephone cables etc. are broken. Unbearable losses make many lose their balance of mind. Many get crippled forever.

An earthquake is a curse which causes untold havoc. It leaves its ugly traces behind.
