Elimination of Racial Discrimination Day – 21st March
Elimination of Racial Discrimination Day is observed on the March 21st every year. March 21st is the anniversary day, when more than seventy peaceful demonstrators against apartheid were killed and over one hundred and eighty were injured in the South. Africa in 1960. In the year 1966, the United Nations General Assembly declared March 21st as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Due to racial discrimination in South Africa between white and black people Gandhiji also faced humiliation. Nelson Mandela, a Nobel laureate, is a leading leader against Apartheid. In fact, apartheid is an illegal practice in a civilized society, which violates Human Rights. Equal opportunity and treatment should exist for all people. Every citizen has the right to realize his or her full potential regardless of race, colour, nationality, or ethnic origin.
Apartheid is a condition against humanity which makes man uncultured like a beast. On the contrary, every human’s dignity and ability must be recognised and given due respect. Elimination of Racial Discrimination is the ideal condition of social growth. The judgment of a person according to colour, language or ethnic origin would be a manmade disaster for the society. On the contrary, if each person would be participating in human development leading to a peaceful and prosperous society. This is the social and moral responsibility of all of us.
