Polluted Air
Materials Required:
- An adult with a kitchen knife
- Fresh onion
- A dinner plate
- Lemon juice
Air pollution leads to unpleasant smell in the air. Some foods have an unpleasant smell.
Have an adult cut a slice of fresh onion and place it on a dinner plate. Hold it upto your nose. Is the strong smell unpleasant? Does it make your eyes water?
Pour a cap full of lemon juice over the slice of onion, completely covering it. Hold the slice up to your nose again. Does the onion smell as strong as earlier?
Do your eyes still water?
If lemon juice takes away the unpleasant odour of onion, do you think it would be a good idea to add lemon juice to recipes that have onions in them, like tuna-fish salad?
Do other citrus fruit juices also take away strong food smell?
Try pouring orange juice on a piece of fresh garlic.
If you eat a piece of garlic, will drinking orange juice make your breath smell fresh?
