Silence is Gold

 This statement underlines the importance of silence in life. A person given to talking too much is called a chatter-box. He talks endlessly in a company and tires the patience of his listeners. His aim is to dominate the show to assert his superiority over others. He does not care for the sentiments of others and does not give them the opportunity to express themselves. He does not realize that his talk is dull and boring. It no longer interests others. Such a person is bound to invite the criticism and anger of his listeners. On the other hand, a person of quiet nature peaks little. His speech is brief and to the point. He knows the value of silence in life. Silence gives mental strength. It preserves our mental energy. That is why the saints and sages observe silence for most of the time. It is good to speak less but speak wisely. Silence is a kind of discipline which comes from within. Therefore it is rightly said that speech is silver but silence is gold.
