The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation, is celebrated with reverence all over the country.

Mahatma Gandhi played a significant role in achieving independence for India from the British Empire with his simplicity and principle of non-violence. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the President and the Prime Minister, along with other eminent political leaders, pay homage at Raj Ghat – the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi. Many functions are organized to commemorate the occasion. People remember Gandhi and his deeds.

Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in Gujarat. He was a lawyer by profession. But his love for his country made him forsake his career as a lawyer. He got involved in India’s freedom struggle. Gandhi was a preacher of truth and non-violence. He started the `Satyagraha’ movement for the Indian freedom struggle and proved to the world that freedom is achievable through the path of non-violence.
