The Autobiography of a Sheep Dog

Outline: My early life – my duties – conclusion.

I am a young sheep – dog named Tom. My master is very kind to me. He feeds me well and looks after my comforts. I learnt my work from my father who was also a sheep dog. I am now an expert in watching the sheep and in keeping them away from danger.

It is my duty to take the sheep to the pastures in the morning. There they graze and I look after them. I see that they are not troubled by thieves or wild animals. In the evening I bring them safely back. If a sheep strays away, I go and find it out. In the night, the sheep are put in the fold, Then I keep awake for the whole night, and guard them. Thus, my duty is very difficult and full of dangers. But I am a sheep – dog and I am proud of doing a responsible duty. Besides, my master’s love compensates me for the difficulties and dangers that I undergo.

I take pride in being a sheep – dog. It is a brave and courageous thing to be a sheep – dog. So, I enjoy my life, and I am satisfied with my lot.

Difficult Words: Pastures – grasslands for cattle. graze – eat grass. strays – goes out of the right path. compensates – (here it means) makes up.
