Essay on “Lal Bahadur Shastri” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

Lal Bahadur Shastri

Lal Bahadur Shastri was born on October 2, 1904, in the family of a school teacher. He was born and brought up in the cradle of poverty.

Seeing the deplorable condition of the Indian masses and to do something he plunged into the Indian politics. In the process he came in contact with national leaders. He started taking active part in the process of liberation of his motherland. He became the member of the Servants of People’s Society.

Under Gandhi’s influence he worked sincerely and tirelessly in the political field. He was a good organizer and started his career by becoming a member of the Allahabad local body. Before becoming the Member of Parliament, he was a minister in the UP cabinet. He served as the Railway Minister and Home Minister in the Nehru cabinet. Taking moral responsibility of a rail accident he resigned. This clearly shows that he was a man of principles and was not hungry for power and pelf. He succeeded Nehru. He faced many problems; food problem was the biggest. Then came the Ingo-Pak war. His leadership and forceful speeches filled the Jawans with new zest and zeal. He gave the slogan of `Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’.

Shastriji was thin and lean and small sized but he performed uphill tasks and proved himself a leviathan. He was a powerhouse of abilities. Under his leadership India gained victory over the territories of Pakistan. Then he signed ‘The Tashkant Declaration’—a treaty of peace between India and Pakistan. He suffered a heart attack while he was in Russia and died there.

Shastri was a true nationalist. He was a harmonious blend of firmness, flexibility, patience and perseverance. Above all, he was an honest statesman. In his case we can say—We live in deeds not in years.
