Sir Garfield Sobers holds a position of pre-eminence among all the cricket all-rounders. He has held supremacy in all the departments of the cricket In 1971, Sobers received the honour of leading the World-Eleven. Sobers became captain of the West Indies cricket team in 1963 and grew to become one of the most successful captains in the cricket history.

The performance of Garifield Sobers on the cricket ground is highly impressive. Sobers scored 8032, runs in 93 test matches, claimed 235 wickets and made century in taking catches also (109 catches) in his distinguished test career. On 31st August, 1948, Garifield Sobers made a record of hitting 36 runs in a single over. Garfield Sobers is credited with hitting 26 centuries in his test career. He also received a rare honour in his life when the Barbados Government issued a postage stamp in his honour.

Garfield Sobers was born on 28’th July 1936, in Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados (West Indies). This left-handed cricketer started showing his talent in cricket at a very early age and by the time he turned 16, he had acquired great fame as a cricketer. These days Sobers is using his extraordinary talent in coaching the young cricketers. It is due to the able guidance of Garifield Sobers that Sri Lanka could make a place for itself in the community of the cricket-playing countries of the world.

Garifield Sobers is one of the most famous cricketers living today. Any discussion of international cricket is incomplete without the mention of his name.
