Kripalani came to the forefront of the Indian National Congress leadership by sheer ability and political acumen. He participated in every movement of independence struggle. He was a strong believer in moral code of conduct in politics.
Kripalani participated in 1917 freedom movement. He was jailed for the first time in 1920. He was associated with Gujarat University from 1922-1927 and was called Acharyai . He was jailed for 18 months in 1930 for having participated in salt movement. He was jailed for three years for his participation in the Quit India Movement. In 1951, he formed the Kisan Majdoor Dal. He was member of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha for many years. He was Secretary of the Indian National Congress and also its President in 1946.
Acharya Kripalani was born in Hyderabad, Sind (now in Pakistan) in a Sindhi family. He did his M.A. from Bombay. From 1912 to 1916 he was Lecturer in History in Muzzaffarpur, Bihar. He became Private Secretary to Mahamana Malviya in 1918. In 1919, he became Professor of Political Science in Benaras University. He wrote many books also.
He married Sucheta quite late in life. The two had big age difference but they had good relations with each other. Sucheta later became first woman Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Achary a Kripalani was a staunch follower of Mahatma Gandhi. He died in 1982 at the age of 94.
