Albert Schwitzer

 

France : Religionist, Philosopher & Musician

Born : AD 1875 Died : AD 1965

Schwitzer was primarily a Padre. He was educated at Paris and Berlin Li Universities. He looked after a Church in Straussberg. He also taught religion at Straussberg University, simultaneously.

In 1905, he gave up priesthood and started work in the field of Medicine. After being successful at home, he went to Africa to serve the African people in French colonies of Africa. He founded a hospital at a place called Lumbren. He arranged for the staff, medicines and the equipment from his own money and bore the entire cost of running the hospital himself. Schwitzer had learned to play organ during his student days. He was one of the finest organ players in the world. 

He visited Europe on a couple of occasions where he was given a rousing welcome. He was awarded Nobel Prize in 1952 for his notable contribution towards humanity.

He was a combination of a Religionist, a Philosopher, a Musician and above all a humanitarian all rolled into one.
