A part from being a top tennis player who ruled supreme in this game for nearly-two decades, Chris Evert was equally popular because of her glamorous personality. No other woman player enjoyed the popularity that she did for such a long period. After having won most of the titles, she retired from competitive tennis in the year 1989 and left a void difficult to fill.

Chris Evert was born on December 21, 1954 at Florida in America. She started taking part in competitive tennis from the young age of 14 and by the time she was 20, she was acclaimed as a rising star in the field of tennis. Married first to John Lloyd and then to Andy Mill, Chris has won 157 singles titles, 18 grand slam singles titles and some 1275 matches in her tennis life. Because of her spectacular achievements, Women’s Sports Foundation declared her to be the most distinguished sportswoman of the last 25 years. Not only that,-Chris was feasted by world figures like American President George .Bush, Mikhail Gorbachev, President of USSR, and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Chris Evert won Wimbledon singles title three times in the years 1974, 1976 and 1981. She was runner-up seven times. She won American Open singles title six times, French Open seven times and Australian Open singles title twice. She also won Ford Challenge Cup, Federation Cup, International Players Tournament and Houston Grand Prix. Her matches with Martina Navaratilova, another all-time great in tennis, always aroused unprecedented public enthusiasm. She played against her some 70 matches and retained her position. The rise of Steffi Graf relegated them to the background.
