Essay on “If I were an Advocate” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

If I were an Advocate

If I were an advocate, I would follow in the footsteps of Gandhiji in the sense that I’d have the pursuit of truth as my model.

It is well-known that Gandhiji always took up only those cases which he learnt after thorough investigation, were true and genuine.

I would not give wrong instructions to plaintiffs, defendants and witnesses to tell lies in the court. I would follow and adhere to truth strictly.

I would not discriminate between rich and poor, high and low, men or women. My policy would be first come first served.

I would not charge high fees from my clients. I would fight cases for poor people even without charging any fees. I would not try to influence the judges through bribes or high-sounding rhetorics.

I would not try to fight a case by any wrong means. Instead of the motto of winning the case at any cost, my motto would be the search and pursuit of truth.

It is said about Mahatma Gandhi that once he won a case when the person for whom he fought the case had given him wrong information. When Gandhi learnt about it later, he was awfully regretful and he put the facts before the judge and requested him to revise his judgement in the light of new facts.

Thus I’d not try to get the reputation of a successful lawyer by adopting wrong, false and underhand methods.
