Motorcycles
The first motorcycle was built in the year ‘1885 by a German called Gottlieb Daimler. It was a very crude version of the modern day motorcycle, it was only a wooden bicycle frame fitted with a small petrol engine. Today motorcycles in contrast are complicated machines. They have engines which are similar to a car but smaller in size and are generally two stroke or four stroke internal combustion air or water cooled engines. On one side of the handlebar is an accelerator, which allows the speed to be increased or decreased while riding, and on the other side is a clutch lever which allows for the gears to be changed with a foot pedal while in motion. The engine drives a chain which is connected to the rear wheel and once the engine is started the clutch is pressed and the gear changed so that the transmission allows the chain to move thus moving the motorcycle forward.
