Figure Skating

Ice skating is of three different types i.e. Ice dancing, Speed skating and Figure skating. Of these three figure skating is the most graceful, it requires the skaters to skate in certain patterns on ice. These contests can be divided into two main parts which are free skating and school figures. In free skating the skaters have the liberty of making all movements like spinning and leaping. School figures on the other hand are based on over 65 different variations in the figure eight and points are also awarded on how the contestants hold their body while performing. Figure skating is done individually and in pairs. A pair is made up of a man and a woman skater. The skaters wear special shoes with metal blades under them and these shoes are laced upto the ankles.
