1. Space travel is a valuable achievement of the twentieth century.
2. Man had always dreamt of conquering space-that is probably why he learnt to fly.
3. The invention of the aeroplane was but the beginning for greater things to come.
4. Space travel was only a dream until 4 October 1957, when the Soviet Union, now Russia, launched Sputnik, the first artificial satellite to orbit the earth.
5. Since then more than 3,000 spacecraft have circled the globe, and many have been sent to explore the planets in the solar system.
6. On 20 July 1969, American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin became the first two men to walk on the moon.
7. What a glorious moment it was in the history of mankind!
8. The next step is setting up colonies of space stations and this will be even more exciting.
9. Imagine hundreds of thousands of earthlings living in outposts in space.
10. And who knows- a journey beyond the planets may also become a possibility, a new challenge to be met!
