10 Lines on “Belling the Cat” Story

1. Once upon a time nine mice lived together in a house.

2. The family, to whom the house belonged, had gone off to London for two years.

3. The mice had a lovely time – they had the whole house to themselves! They had grown nice and fat when, one day, a large, fierce cat also came to stay in the same house.

4. The cat had probably smelt the mice. All day it sat near their hole, where they had taken shelter.

5. It refused to move away from there. The mice were so scared of the cat that they dared not come out even during the night.

6. When they could bear it no longer they held a meeting. One young mouse suggested, “Let us hang a bell round the cat’s neck.

7. Then when she walks the bell will ring and we can run away.” The mice were very happy and clapped their hands in joy.

8. Soon after, a wise old mouse asked, “This is a good plan but then who will bell the cat?”

9. The mice fell silent again. No one was brave enough for such a task.

10. Some things are easier said than done.
