Why is the Bible a holy book for both Christians and Jews?
Most religions have a holy book that contains teachings which show people how to lead a good life. There may also be stories about the lives of the people who began the religion. The old Testament of the Bible tells the history of the Jewish people and is therefore regarded as a holy book by Jews who follow Judaism, the Jewish religion. Jews also gain many of their teachings from the Talmud, another holy book.
Christians follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, who was a Jew. The Old Testament is therefore also a holy book for Christians, because it tells the history of the people among whom Jesus lived. Christians get their teachings from the New Testament, which tells of the lives of Jesus and his followers. The Old Testament and the New Testament together make up the Holy Bible.
Christianity has more than 1,000 million believers, more than any other religion, and Judaism has about 15 million. The Holy Bible, which has been translated into about 1,400 languages, outnumbers all other books.
