Letter to the editor regarding an article on polluting units in Delhi.
Sir,
This is in reference to your editorial dated Nov. 28, 2002, on the polluting units in Delhi. As per the viewpoint of your editorial, these units should be shifted out of Delhi to make Delhi pollution-free. May I ask you where was Delhi government when the licence was being issued to these units and then, as per instructions of the Delhi government, these small-scale industries had to put up a plant for carrying the effluence to Yamuna? One fine morning the apex court wakes up and orders the Delhi govt. to close down the polluting units. What about the three-wheelers and the heavy vehicles emitting smoke, which is more obnoxious than smoking a cigarette? It is very important that before issuing such orders which render lacs of people homeless, the govt. should think about the pros and cons. Through the column of your newspaper, I would also drive home a point to the Delhi govt.; first, rehabilitate the jobless before rendering them one.
Yours Truly,
Sanjeev Jha
