Mushroom Growth of NGOs is A Govt. Concern.
Dec. 19: The recent mushroom growth of NGOs (Non-Government Organizations) is causing a serious concern to the government. A spokesman of the Ministry of Human Resources said that today everyone and anyone who has a political connection is floating an NGO without any social cause. Most of these NGOs are collecting money on the name of social cause and laundering it without putting it into the proper cause. Most of such NGOs are in Bihar, U.P. and M.P. The motivating factor for starting an NGO is the funds generated in the name of social work. The High Court of Delhi recently issued a notification that the credentials of the NGO should be checked before funding it. An interesting fact is the tax-free money which the NGO receives and some of the corporate also contribute to such NGOs to get tax concessions from the govt. As a matter of fact, there is also a nexus between the NGOs and the corporations to hoodwink the government. The Ministry of Human Resources has said that it is soon going to take some concrete steps in order to counter this menace. Delhi, has been identified as the city where the NGOs are growing at a fast pace and these are bringing a bad name to some of the established NGOs like HelpAge India, CRY (Child Relief and You) and many such other NGOs which are really working for a social cause.
