Science Project on “Escaping Heat”, Project Experiment Topics on Environmental Science for Class 8, 9, 10 and 12 Students.

Escaping Heat

Materials Required:

1. Freshly mowed glass clippings

2. Lawn rake

3. A watch

4. A nice, warm and sunny day

Decaying organic things cause the production of heat energy. Gardens require structures called “compost piles” to make fertilizers in order to feed the garden. A compost pile is basically a small area, which contains all sorts of dead or dying plants, animal leavings such as peels and scraps from the kitchen, among other such similar things that rot. This material is all collected at one place and allowed to rot away, so that it turns to a kind of fertilizer. As this stack decays, heat energy is produced.

After mowing a lawn, collect some grass clippings using a lawn rake. Pile them to a height of around one foot and of around one foot diameter. Place it in broad sunlight.

After a suitable amount of time has passed, make another pile of the same measurement and place next to the first pile. Keep them for another 10 minutes. Now place your hand in the middle of each pile and feel the heat in each of them. The one which is just raked should be colder than the one which has been placed in the sun first.
