The Children’s Day

November 14, the birthday of our first Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, is celebrated as the Children’s Day. Nehru had undiminishing love for children. Children reciprocated his affection and love by calling him ‘Chacha Nehru’. To perpetuate this bond of love and to cherish the sweet memories of Nehru, the Children’s Day is celebrated.

Our school celebrated this day with all enthusiasm, zeal and zest and gusto. The main function was organized in the school hall which was tastefully decorated with a liberal use of buntings, strips of multicoloured paper and balloons. In the lobby a number of photographs depicting different aspects of the life. of Nehru attracted people of all ages. The whole function was organised by the school children themselves. The principal and teachers were honourable guests.

The programme started with the worship of Goddess Saraswati. A melodious song was sung by a little girl in the praise of Goddess. Then a girl student in her white dress and a tiara on her head played the role of ‘Bharat Mata’. A group-song, in the praise of the motherland, enthralled the audience. The hall resounded with clippings. A boy playing the valiant ‘Shivaji’ gave a glimpse to the spectators. A small skit depicting the life of ‘Rani Laxmibai’ was presented. A cute boy disguised as ‘Chacha Nehru’ flaunting a small rose in the button hole earned a lot of applause. The scene shifted to the playgrounds.

Sweets were distributed amongst the students. Short distance races were held. Children playing umpires and referees managed the items of ‘Musical Chair’ and a race in which teachers took part. The spectators and the managers (children) enjoyed themselves very much. This was followed by the Principal’s address. In his persuasive way he advised children to imbibe the quality of ‘Chacha Nehru’. He wished them all success and prosperity in life. The Head boy thanked the principal, teachers and invitees. With the singing of the National Anthem the function came to a close.
