Foods that Retain Heat
Materials Required:
- An adult to make pancakes
- Stove
- Utensils
- Pancake mix
- Milk
- Margarine
- Two Dinner plates
Ever wondered, why certain food cools faster than others? A potato stays hot for long while a toast doesn’t. Assuming, thick food retains its warmth for a longer period of time, a thicker pancake should keep its heat longer than a thinner one. With the help of an adult, carry out this task.
Mix pancake batter in two bowls, making one richer than the other. Add more milk in the second batter, to make it thin. Prepare one pancake with the thick batter and the next with the thin.
After both of them are cooked, cut two slices of a margarine stick measuring 1/4 of an inch and place them in the middle of the pancakes. Does the margarine on the thicker pancake melt faster than the one on the thinner?
Examine which cooked food cools faster, after being served and which stays hot the longest? Will placing the pancakes on a warm plate help it retain its warmth longer? Should we carry the exercise by warming syrup or honey before putting it on a pancake?
