Practical Guidelines of Library System and Resource

Management –XII (747) vocational subject

 

 1.)MINIMUM PASS MARKS

The Minimum number of marks required to pass in each subject is (33) percent in the written papers and practical examination.

 

 2.)Marks for record, Viva Project etc., in respect of Senior School Certificate Examination:

Marks allotted for laboratory Record, Viva Voice etc., should separately stated in the answer book (if answer-Books are used) and added to the marks given for other items. The projects and the practical records, duly punched should be returned to the students concerned immediately after evaluation.

3.)Assessment of performance.

The two examiners, one internal and the other external, assigned for theconduct and assessment of Practical Examinations each in Senior SecondarySchool Curriculum. Question for the viva examinations should be conducted byboth the examiners. Question to be more of General nature, project work or on thecurriculum. Investigatory Project especially those that show considerable amountof effort and originality, on the part of the student, should get suitable high markswhile project of a routine or stereotyped nature should only receive MEDIOCREmarks.

In the assessment and award of marks, follow strictly the marking Scheme whichis given in the list of practical I.e. provided to the Examiners/Schools at the time ofExamination.

Every effort should be made to reach a consensus on the marks to be awarded to individual candidates. If a difference of one or two marks still persists even after discussion the average marks should be awarded.

Marks awarded for Project / Practical activities, for viva, for project and forPractical files must be separately shown on the answer-book as the total.

If irregularities are perceived by either examiner in the conduct of the PracticalExamination these should be included in the examiner’s report and should be sentto the Asstt. Secretary (A.B. Cell) within three days after the end of practicalexamination.

The external examiner should assume responsibility of deposit of answer books &award list to the Board.

Award lists should be signed by both the examiners and should be sent separatelythrough messenger/personally in a double sealed cover and not mixed with theAnswer-books. The answer-books can be delivered personally in the Board’soffice.

The related material will be collected by the external examiner from the allotted schools.

4.)Procedure for Assessment of practical project work (40 Marks for practical’s)

Library System and Resource Management projects has been emerging as avery interesting and a practical approach to understand theory, through analyticaland logical thinking. It also improves presentation and communication skills.Keeping this in mind following guidelines has been framed to bring aboutuniformity and reward creative skills among students. (Brief on the subjectpaper)

Sample of projects can be given

  1. Make a project file for weeding out programme in a School Library. The projectfile must possess the meaning, purpose, criteria and procedure of weeding outprogramme.

Or

  1. Make a project file for dimension of space for different areas in your SchoolLibrary. Areas may be like Stack area, Reading area, Circulation area, Librarystaff seating area.

However it is suggested here that teachers could also frame similar projects to test candidates’ skills.

 

The mark for the projects will be assessed by the examiner through, a wellplanned rubric, keeping in view the core content,, quality of the project andpresentation of work.

As students do not have an external examiner, teachers could follow similar pattern as enunciated for Grade 12.

 

To improve students’ presentation skills, it is suggested that the students be trained to present final project.

From sample Project listed above-(10 marks each)

Students should demonstrate their capacity to handle a project in the examination hall.The correctness and quality of the project in accordance to the time limit should be keptin mind before grading the child. Further, the time limit should be enough for bothprojects.

Viva based on Project -10 marks

Q.1. Define budget?

Q.2. What are the four basic functions of an Acquisition System?

Q.3. What are the different methods for procuring Serials?

Q.4. Name the different Issue/Return System?

Q.5. What is RFID?

The examiner conducting the final practical examination may ask verbal questionsrelated to the project, if any, done by the student. Alternatively, if no project has beenassigned to the students, viva may be based on questions of practical nature from thefield of subject as per the Curriculum.

Practical File/ Report / portfolio or Power Point presentation -10 Marks

Make a Power Point Presentation/manually draw the steps in planning a Library building.

(In 2 slides)

Or

Make a Power Point Presentation/manually draw the basic functions of an Acquisitionprocess.

Students need to present their work. Alternatively, if they can’t be assigned a powerpoint presentation then they can communicate their project work. Personal hygiene andpresentation should be also be graded.

Demonstration of skill competency via Lab Activities -10 marks

Is Conservation work in Libraries important? Explain in support of your answer withexample with demonstration.

Activity question to be created by internal examiner, to be conducted on the day of practical.
