The School Band

It was a prestigious thing to be a part of the School Band. I auditioned for it twice before I got selected to be part of it. Our school was big and at any point of time there were at least 3000 students studying in it. The Band was huge, and comprised of a group of musicians one pianist, two drummers, 10 guitarists, 15 violinists, 20 flutists, and several others on synthesizers. I was a part of the hundred strong Band. I sang soprano and stood in the very first row of singers.

The Band was put by together Mrs. Peggy who was the music teacher. She conducted the Band and did so sometimes with a baton and sometimes with just the swaying of her hands. You could tell how good she was at conducting by the wonderful way that we all came together to make the music sound complete.

The School Band played at every Assembly, at every flag hoisting ceremony, on Sports Day, on the Captain Pledge days and also participated in Inter-School Band competitions. It played the National song and patriotic songs on Republic Day and Independence Day and fun songs on Sports Day and Annual Day. All of us were proud to be a part of it and the days we managed to synchronize well were the days we really cherished. Our School Band had won the award for Best School Band in our State three years in a row and I was proud to be a part of it.
