Studying English in an English-speaking country is the best but not the only way to learn the language. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Some people opine that to learn English, one should move to the country where it is spoken. In my opinion, it has many advantages though it is not the only way to learn English.

First of all, students get chances to mingle with native speakers of English which is obviously beneficial. Thus, they can practice listening to and speaking with English people. For example, if students attend a language school, the teachers will be native speakers. In this case, not only will students’ speaking and listening skills improve, but attention can be given to developing reading and writing skills as well. Furthermore, this helps them understand the culture, customs and lifestyle of the local populace which are highly necessary to study the idioms, proverbs and other uses of the language.

However, there are many other ways that can be used to study English. Nowadays, students in non-English-speaking countries learn English at secondary school or university level. Although their spoken English is not usually of a very high standard, their knowledge of grammar is often quite advanced. Secondly, studying the basics of English at secondary school is less stressful than learning the language while overseas. This also helps save both time and money because they do not have to worry about accommodation and study expenses.

In total it seems that the best way to learn English is to move to an English-speaking country though an average level can be reached in one’s own country.
