Paragraph on “Who was Tycho Brahe?” complete paragraph for Class 9, Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12

Who was Tycho Brahe?

Tycho Brahe (1546-1601) was a brilliant Danish astronomer. King Frederick II of Denmark was so impressed with his skilled observations of the stars and planets that he gave him an island called Hven, near Copenhagen where Brahe built an observatory. Unfortunately, Tycho Brahe was reputed to have a most unpleasant character, and was much disliked by the inhabitants of the is-land. It is said that he lost part of his nose in a duel and he replaced it with a false one that he made of metal which lasted him for the rest of his life. Brahe had his own theory about the Universe. He did not agree with Ptolemy, and he refused to support Copernicus. He believed that the Sun and Moon went round the Earth, but that the planets themselves went round the Sun in circular orbits. He was not much of a mathematician himself, so he employed Johann Kepler to analyse his accurate position measurements of the planets. He did this to prove his own theories were correct. Luckily perhaps for Kepler, he died in 1601 before Kepler had finished his work — which proved that Brahe was quite wrong !
