 1.) MINIMUM PASS MARKS

The Minimum number of marks required to pass in each subject is (33) percent in the written papers and practical examination.

2.) Marks for record, Viva Project etc., in respect of Senior School Certificate Examination:

Marks allotted for laboratory Record, Viva Voice etc., should separately state in the answer book (if answer-Books are used) and added to the marks given for other items. The projects and the practical records, duly punched should be returned to the students concerned immediately after evaluation.

3.) Assessment of performance.

The two examiners, both internal assigned for the conduct and assessment ofPractical Examinations each in Senior Secondary School Curriculum .Questionfor the viva examinations should be conducted by both the examiners. Question tobe more of General nature, project work or the curriculum. Investigatory Projectespecially those that show considerable amount of effort and originality, on thepart of the student, should get suitable high marks, while project of a routine orstereotyped nature should only receive MEDIOCRE marks.

In the assessment and award of marks, follow strictly the marking Scheme which is given in the list of practical I.e. provided to the Examiners/Schools at the time of Examination.

Every effort should be made to reach a consensus on the marks to be awarded to individual candidates. If a difference of one or two marks still persists even after discussion the average marks should be awarded.

Marks awarded for Project / Practical activities, for viva, for project and forPractical files must be separately shown on the answer-book as the total.

Award lists should be signed by the examiner.

  1. Procedure for Assessment of practical project work in. (40 Marks for practicals)

Library Classification and cataloging (748) projects has been emerging as a veryinteresting and a practical approach to understand theory, through analytical andlogical thinking. It also improves presentation and communication skills. Keepingthis in mind following guidelines has been framed to bring about uniformity andreward creative skills among students.

Sample of projects can be given-

Classify the following titles with the help of Dewey Decimal classification scheme.

1) Ramcharitmanas by GoswamiTulsidas.

2) University Library

3) Invertebrate

4) Respiratory System in human being.

5) Animal husbandry.

6) History of India

7) Biography of Dr. Rajendra Prasad (1st president of India.)

8) Three mistakes of my life by ChetanBhagat.

9) Ethics of Doctors.

10)English-Hindi Dictionary.

However it is suggested here that teachers could also frame similar projects totest candidates’ skills.

 

The mark for the projects will be assessed by the examiner through, a wellplanned rubric, keeping in view the core content, quality of the project andpresentation of work.

As students do not have an external examiner, teachers could follow similarpattern as enunciated for Grade 12.

 

To improve student’s presentation skills, it is suggested that the students betrained to present final project.

From sample Project listed above-(10 marks each)

Students should demonstrate their capacity to handle a project in the examinationhall. The correctness and quality of the project in accordance to the time limit shouldbe kept in mind before grading the child. Further, the time limit should be enough forboth projects.

Viva based on Project -10 marks (sample questions)

  1. What are the different items required from a book to prepare a main entrycatalogue from AACR-2R?

  1. List the 10 main divisions (1st summery table ) of universe of subjects described in

Dewey Decimal Classification scheme.

  1. What do you mean by call number?

  1. Name the different items required from a book to enter the dates into AccessionRegister.

  1. Name the Five Fundamental Categories.

The examiner conducting the final practical examination may ask verbal questionsrelated to the project, if any, done by the student. Alternatively, if no project has beenassigned to the students, viva may be based on questions of practical nature from thefield of subject as per the Curriculum.

Practical File/ Report / portfolio or Power Point presentation -10 Marks (samplequestions)

 

  1. Make a power point presentation for chain Index entries, described byDr.S.R.Rengunathen, for the following title.

(i) Victorian period of English Poetry (821.8).

OR

  1. Make a power point presentation for entry elements for different corporateAuthors.

Students need to present their work. Alternatively, if they can’t be assigned a powerpoint presentation then they can communicate their project work. Personal hygiene andpresentation should be also be graded.

Demonstration of skill competency via Lab Activities -10 marks (sample activity)

  1. Provide a book and ask to find out the items required for preparing the catalogue.

OR

  1. Provide a book and ask to find out the different work required to process the bookbefore putting on the shelves.

Activity question to be created by internal examiner, to be conducted on the day of practical.
