NSQF Practical Guidelines and Project 2018 of “Front Office Operations (410) ” for Class 9 CBSE  

 

Practical Guidelines

 FRONT OFFICE OPERATIONS-IX (410)

 

 1.)MINIMUM PASS MARKS

The Minimum number of marks required to pass in each subject is (33) percent in the written papers and practical examination.

2.)Marks for record, Viva Project etc., in respect of Secondary School Examination:

Marks allotted for laboratory Record, Viva Voice etc., should be separately stated in the answer book (if answer-books are used) and added to the marks given for other items.

3.)Assessment of performance.

(a) The examiners, both internal may be assigned for the conduct and assessment of Practical Examinations in Secondary School Curriculum (Under NSQF).Question for the viva examinations should be conducted by both the examiners. Questions to be more of general nature, based on project work or the curriculum. Investigatory Project especially those that show considerable amount of effort and originality, on the part of the student, should get suitable high marks, while project of a routine or stereotyped nature should only receive MEDIOCRE marks.

(b) In the assessment and award of marks, follow strictly the marking Scheme which is given in the list of practical I.e. provided to the Examiners/Schools at the time  of Examination.

(c) Every effort should be made to reach a consensus on the marks to be awarded to individual candidates. If a difference of one or two marks still persists even after discussion the average marks should be awarded.

 

(d) Marks awarded for Project / Practical activities, for viva, for project and for Practical files must be separately shown on the answer-book as the total.

 

(e) Award lists should be signed by the examiner.

 

4.)Procedure for Assessment of practical and project work in Front Office (Marks for practicals-50)

 

Front Office projects have been emerging as an interesting and a practical approach to understand theory, through analytical and logical thinking. It also improves presentation and communication skills. Keeping this in mind the following guidelines has been framed to bring about uniformity and reward creative skills among students.

Sample for projects have been given below. Any two projects can be selected

(5 marks each) However, teachers could also frame similar projects to test candidates’ skills. Project should be based from the field of subject as per the Curriculum.

 

Project – 10 marks

PROJECT 1- Prepare a collage with photographs of evolution of modes of transport used in tourism

 

PROJECT 2- Share own experience of your best ever tourism experience.

 

PROJECT 3- Prepare a survey report of 20 respondents of their reasons for travelling in last one year and their best experiences with reasons.

 

PROJECT 4 – Make a collage of different logos of different tourist organizations

 

PROJECT 5 – Power point presentation /flip charts on char dhams of india.

 

PROJECT 6- Visit a hotel and find out about the facilities/services provided to guests.

 

(If students cannot be assigned a power point presentation, then they can communicate their project work through flip charts, flow diagram, etc. Students can also use electronic media to collect information on hotels )

Viva based on Project – 10marks

  1. What is the difference between an excursionist and a tourist?
  • Students should demonstrate their capacity to handle a project in the examination.

To improve students’ presentation skills, it is suggested that the students be trained to present final project.

  • The marks for the projects will be assessed by the subject teachers through, a well planned rubric, keeping in view the core content, quality of the project and presentation of work.

  • The correctness and quality of the project in accordance to the time limit should be kept in mind before grading the child.

  1. List four modes of transport.
  2. What do you understand by an inbound tourism?
  3. Which place is known as Switzerland of India?
  4. What is Gangtok famous for?
  5. Name a hill station near Mumbai where even bicycles are banned .
  6. Where is Dal Lake situated?
  7. What facility does a hotel provides to a guest?

The examiner conducting the final practical examination may ask verbal questions related to the project, if any, done by the student. Alternatively, if no project has been assigned to the students, viva may be based on questions of practical nature from the field of subject as per the Curriculum.

 

Practical File -10 Marks

  1. Prepare a chart on departmental organisation and staff organisation of a large and medium sized hotel.
  2. Collect pictures of types of hotels according to location and clientele.
  3. Make a list of 10 single unit hotels and 10 chain hotels,/ 10 international chains of hotels .
  4. Classify Taj/Oberoi group of hotels along with their places and pictures.
  5. Compare the advantages and drawbacks of tourism.
  6. Mention any two Char Dhams and prepare a brief report on the facilities for the visitors .
  7. List any 8 services that are directly /indirectly related to tourism.
  8. Mark the famous beaches, hills and wild life destinations on map of india.
  • The examiner in charge of conducting practical may assign practical activities to the students so as to generate interest in students in the subject
  • Students are required to prepare a practical file as per the curriculum and instructions of the examiner.

  • Sample for practical activities have been given below. However, teachers could also frame similar practicals as per the curriculum. All units should be covered

 

  1. Draw comparative chart of tourist activities at beaches, hills and wild life destinations and kinds of items you would need at these destinations.

10.Mark the famous forts, palaces, temples and religious places on the map of India and a make a collage of these.

Grooming and soft skills – 10 marks

  • Communication skills -Ask to introduce self, talk about self, his likes /dislikes, why chosen this field , observe and note –clarity of thought and speech ,confidence

  • Courtesy and Manners -how greets, sits only when asked to , Table manners

  • Grooming – uniform, nails, hair, shoes, etc

Demonstration of skill competency via Lab Activities( Any two )10 marks

 

  1. Make a logo of any five hotels in India.

  1. Mark 5 famous religious places on map of India

OR

Mark 5 famous palaces each on map of India

OR

Mark 5 famous forts each on map of India

OR

Mark the famous beaches, hills and wild life destinations on map of India.

  1. List 5 facilities provided in a hotel for guests
  • Activity question can also be created by examiner, to be conducted on the day of practical.

Record of Marks in the Practical answer-books

The examiner will indicate marks of practical examination separately on the title page of the answer-books under the following heads:-

  1. Project
  2. Viva
  3. Practical File
  4. Grooming and soft skills
  5. Practical exam/
