War as A Vicious Horror

There is no doubt that war is the most vicious man-made evil. It brings death, destruction, poverty, starvation and slaughter of innocent people. In order to estimate the destructive effects of war we can imagine the damage, devastation and losses of life and property that took place during the time of World Wars in 1914 and 1939.

Disturbing side of modern wars is that they become global covering the entire world. Some people consider war as something grand and heroic. They believe that war brings out the best from a man for his country. However, this idea does not change the fact that war is a horrible man-made disaster.

There is no period in the history of the world that has been free from the devastating effects of war. Human beings have witnessed different types of wars ranging from wars lasting for a year to war lasting for many decades. Although world has seen many great leaders who have supported non-violence, peace, harmony, unity and belief in God, weapons and military strength has always been utilized. Countries have always involved in clashes of arms and ammunition. War has become a striking characteristic of every era. They have become a common part of the normal functioning of nations.

Fighting is the natural instinct of man. It is difficult to imagine so many countries in the world living united in a state of everlasting harmony and peace. Different countries look different international matters from their own point of view and benefit. Major difference in policy and ideology occurs between them. If the difference is not settled by negotiations and talks, war becomes necessary in such cases. If the political ideology of a country is intolerable and objectionable to another, the relations between the two countries become tense. It becomes difficult to continue peace, resulting in a war.

Traditional hatred between national and international conflict have their roots in the history. For example, after the end of First World War in 1918, humiliating terms were imposed on Germany. Germany desired to react over the terms by smashing British Empire and establishing her own territory. This shows that wounds of the past do not heal up and are in constant search of revenge.

Man is a highly energetic creature. It seems that he cannot remain satisfied simply with peace, knowledge, arts, modern comforts and happy life. He is fond of something adventurous and exciting. He fights in order to get an opening for his stored energy. However, war also has good side. It encourages men to self-sacrifice and shows them heroism. War is clearly an escape from the tiredness of peace.
