Essay on “The Values of Games Today” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

The Values of Games Today

Games and sports are a necessary part of education. The aim of education is physical, mental and moral development of a student. A sound body contains a sound mind. If the body is weak the mind can never be strong.

‘Health is Wealth’ is an old saying. The students can build their health and body by playing games which provide exercise in the open and fresh air. All work and no play make Jack and dull boy. India does not need bookworms with ill-health. A good student must take care of all the things he must give time to his studies, but he should not neglect games he should follow the maxim, ‘work while you work, play while you play, that is the way to be happy and gay.’

Games teach us discipline and sportsmanship. A true sportsman treats victory and defeat equally. Games provide a good training for playing games of life. A true player is unmindful of joys and sorrows. We learn to laugh in the face of failures. We do not get proud when we are successful. Games give the best education in the art of living. The battle of life is won by sportsmen. Games help in the formation of our character. They teach us leadership also. The captain wins the hearts of his team through love, sympathy and fair play. In this way games produce the best citizens of tomorrow.

Games provide excitement in the dull life of students. We can make the best use of leisure by playing games. They also let off the surplus energy of young men. If this surplus energy does not come out the result would be mischief and indiscipline. An idle brain is the devil’s workshop. Students must be kept busy they are not studying.

Games should be made compulsory for every student in every school. Education without games is incomplete. Schools should give due importance to games.

Value of Games

Some people claim that there is no benefit from games and sports at all, especially for adults. However, sports and games have many benefits for children and adults. They release pressure and teach us skills of surviving in this tough life. Also, they provide entertainment and pleasure and help socialize our lives. Experts say that practicing sports releases pressure, since the tired body releases hormones that relax us and make us feel better. I am used to swimming before exams. After swimming, I find that I totally relax and loose anxiety and that helps me a lot doing well in exams and getting high grades. Moreover, students need good health. For example, it is difficult for non athletic students to walk fast from one side of the campus to the other to catch up their classes and even if they could, they would reach classes but exhausted and so cannot pay attention to lectures. Playing sports and games teaches many skills that are needed in this tough life. For example, competing with others is growing as a habit, without which no one would succeed. Exercises teach us how to accept defeat, and how to try again and again till we achieve our goals. Moreover, students can make their career in sports. Many athletes like Sachin Tendulakar, PT Usha, Baichung Bhuna, etc. gained fame in sports. Also, playing games and sports has important advantages in a way that it socializes our lives. For example, when people  intend to play basketball, they do it in groups. That will give them team spirit and a chance to identify each other very well and make friendships and relationships. And so, it is not true that sports and games do not have advantages for adults, since they decrease the stress, teach us skills that we need, satisfy us, and socialize our lives. And to get the most of the benefits, they should be practiced daily. Asian Games are going to be held in 2010 in our country. It will provide space and opportunities to our players. It will also help in developing our country as well as provide economic growth to our country.
