Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel

Essay No. 01

Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel was the Deputy Prime Minister of free India. He is known as “Man of Iron Will.” He was the worthy son of our motherland.

He was born in 1875 in Gujarat in the state of Bombay. His father, javar Bhai was a great soldier. His parents were of farmer stock. He gave proof of the  strength  that belonged to our Jat Brethern

He went to a high school at Baroda. At school he had a brilliant carrier as a student. He was the cock of the school. He was well  known for fearlessness and boldness. He was popular with students of the school. He joined the Law College and passed the Law examination.

He became lawyer and practiced law in Ahmedabad. He was an eminent lawyer . he earned a lot of money which he spent on his comforts and luxuries.

When Mahatma Gandhi started his Civil Disobedience Movement he came into touch with him. Gandhiji asked him to join the Movement. This was a call to Patel. He gave practice to follow Mahatma Gandhi.

Sardar Patel was the chief leader of Gujarat. He so trained Bardoli villagers that they came out successful in Non tax Campaign. The Bombay Government had to yield to him.

He rose high in the Congress. There was no movement in which he did not play the leading part. He went to jail several times. It was Patel who made nearly all the movements a success.

Sardar Patel served India throughout his life. when he was Deputy Prime Minister, he did the work we cannot forget. There were hundreds of  princely states that were ready to create trouble. But Sardar Patel dealt with them so strongly that all of them accepted his advice and joined Indian Union. So by the time the new Constitution came into force India had become united. 

Patel was a man of iron and unyielding will. He knew the ins and outs of diplomacy. He could rise to the occasion if a revolution broke out to crush it in to time. he could not bear opposition.

But the life of ‘Iron man’ of India came to a sudden end on 15th December, 1951 at 9.37 a.m. in Birla House, Bombay. His death caused a great loss to the nation.

Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel

Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel was born on 31 October, 1875, in a farmer’s family in Nadiad, Gujarat.

His father, Zaverbhai, had served in the army of Jhansi ki Rani, and his mother, Ladbai, was a deeply religious woman. Vallabh bhai’s initial schooling was in Gujarati.

After his schooling, he went to England for higher studies. In 1913 after studying law there he returned back to India as a barrister.

Vallabh bhai was married to Zaverbai in 1891. The couple had two children-a daughter Maniben, born in April of 1904, and a son Dayrohai, born in November of 1905. Zaverbai died in January of 1909.

Patel came into touch with Gandhi and gave up his practice. Vallabhbhai was deeply influenced by Gandhiji. The title of `Sardar’ was given to him by Gandhiji. In 1918, he entered politics.

In 1931, he became the President three years as he was the leader of the Quit India Movement.

In 1947, India became independent and Vallabhbhai became the Home Minister of Independent India.

His service to the nation will always be remembered. He died in the year 1949. He was known as the Iron Man of India.
