Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1, 1926, at Los Angeles in America. Her original name was Norma Joan. She was born in a poor family but had been gifted with a stunning physique and ravishing beauty. She came into prominence because of a calendar, wherein she posed in the nude lying on a red carpet. From modelling, she drifted into films and was considered as one of the most beautiful women of her time along with Joan Harlow, Rita Hayworth and others. Even after 29 years of her death, her glamorous personality retains its magical hold.

She married Dougherty at the young age of 16. Then, she got married to Joe Di Maggio and Arthur Miller, an intellectual and playwright. She was supposed to have illicit affairs with international figures like Frank Sinatra, President John Kennedy and his brother Senator Edward Kennedy. Her death is still enveloped in mystery. She is supposed to have committed suicide on August 4, 1962, but later investigations made it doubtful. It is alleged that she was done away with or forced to kill herself as she had come to know many state secrets due to her proximity to President Kennedy.

Hailed as the ‘Sex Nymph’ and a living legend, Marilyn Monroe held her place in the glamour world of Hollywood which boasted of such stars as Katherine Hepburn, Greta Garbo, Sofia Loren, Jane Fonda, Elizabeth Taylor and dazzling beauties like Ava Gardner, Lana Turner and others. Millions adored her for gorgeous figure and romantic portrayals. Her beauty had an indescribable magical quality which put her on top in the world of glamour. Her prominent films are Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), The Seven Year Itch (1955), Bus Stop (1956), Some Like it lies (1959), How to Marry a Millionaire, A Street Car Named Desire, There is no Business like Show Business, The Asphalt Jungle, Niagara and Prince and the Show Girl (1957). From a show girl who appeared nude on the pages of sleazy magazines, she rose to be a nation’s heart-throb.
