You have observed that most of the students in your class are only worried about marks and do not think about acquiring knowledge. Parents are also satisfied as long as their children are scoring good marks in their report cards. You feel this is encouraging rote learning.
Discuss with your partner

1. How you can encourage your friends to give more importance to    knowledge than marks?
2. How you can discourage rote learning?

Candidate A: Hey ! Vinay you look worried. What’s the matter?

Candidate B: Oh ! Nothing, but……

Candidate A: But ! I am thinking about our classmates. They are in the habit of cramming.

Candidate B: But, their parents are happy because they find their children are scoring good marks in their report cards.

Candidate A: Yes ! They are not aware about the true picture.

Candidate B: And this is encouraging rote  learning in students. Real knowledge is not cramming facts. It is related to understanding also.

Candidate A: You are right.

Candidate B: We must talk with our classmates and encourage them to change their attitude.

Candidate A: Yes, we can take help of our teachers, counselor and parents also.

Candidate B: When they will put their efforts together our classmates will certainly change their attitude.

Candidate A: Yes, friend you are right.

Candidate B: Ok! Then we shall meet our teachers and talk to them first.

Candidate A: Ok !
