A new battle of Padmavati

He killed the whole family of ‘Thakur’, didn’t even endorsed a child. What a merciless fellow this Gabbar is! My mother said while watching Sholay on television long ago. Her anger over the brutality was clearly visible on her face. That was a perfect illustration about the impact a piece of art can bestow upon impetuous human beings!

“The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance” Aristotle wrote about the way art should be presented or performed.

Recent developments in the way of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ has once again proved that when your action deviates from your intention, the result can be catastrophic.

When Sanjay was thrashed on the sets of his dream project, many cynic eyebrows signalled it to be just another way of cheap publicity. But the matter transformed from bad to worse with every single day making way for the film’s release and finally when the stage was set for a perilous clash, came the twist by CBFC announcing that Padmavati has not been given clearance yet and it cannot be released on the scheduled date i.e. 1st of December this year.

From producers to actors, each individual having connection with the film is crying foul about the way these events have taken place. Starting from the leading lady Deepika Padukone’s tweet mentioning the current phenomenal level of intolerance in our country. Ranveer Singh, the modern day Allauddin Khilji also supported the views of Padmavati ( you heard it right! In twenty first century anything can happen.).

More or less the whole film fraternity is backing Bhansali and his film whereas mixed obserations are doing rounds across political strata. Rajasthan, Utter Pradesh, and Punjab have already banned the film in their respective states. Utter Pradesh’s CM Yogi Aditya Nath earlier in one of his interviews said that a film should not hurt the sentiments of any particular community. When asked about the threats and bounties being offered by some hooligans along with some publicity seekers, he said that if those offering bounties and giving threats to the stars of the film, are to be punished then those who have tricked with history and tried to demean commemorated personalities should not be spared either. Even cabinet minister Shri Nitin Gadari has plainly showed his displeasure regarding the entire way this film has disgraced historical glory.

Interestingly, how many of these people have actually seen the trailer of this film or know the exact screenplay is doubtful but still fanning with the wind is not a phantasm in our country. Anyhow, whatever be the reality is, violence cannot be encouraged or justified at any cost. We are a progressive nation, One can unreservedly enjoy one’s share of freedom as far as it doesn’t physically or mentally injure anyone.

What will be the future of Padamavati, is a million dollar question now, but as a movie lover I wouldn’t want it to be shelved. Both parties should sit together and find a mutual solution. Art should not endure human predicament.
